If Orson Welles were in the 21st century, he would be the CEO of CNN with spreading false news telling it as real news 😅

For my entire life as a creative writer I've looked at this radio broadcast as the pinnacle of immersive fiction and I've always held myself up to this standard of "would this have the same impact that War of the Worlds had in it's broadcast?" I think Wells should be considered a pioneer in the world of unfiction narratives, and any creative writer would benefit from studying his works

Be sure and watch this whole video. Far Less people heard this broadcast than it's made to seem. Even less freaked out, and nobody jumped off any buildings. YOU are the gullible one.

I'll watch, regardless of the facts being misspoken...in the narrator's first three words. The broadcast date was October 30th, not the 31st.

Fun fact: my great grandma (who died a few weeks ago) was alive when she heard this and she told me she was freaking the fuck out 😂

H.G Wells initially denounced Orsen for the radio broadcast. When he realized that the radio broadcast was never intended to cause riots and panic, but to entertain Orsen was forgiven and both got to be good friends. Those who jammed the streets and ran for the hills to escape the martians have forgiven Orsen is another matter.

The “Ohhhhh the humanity 😢” line came from the great Hindenberg ( burg ?) disaster after it caught on fire due to a freak storm. You can’t blame mother nature for that part.

Cool! Where’d you get that footage for War Of The Worlds? It doesn’t look like it’s from 1953. 👏🏼🤔

It wasn't a fake though. I know the history of this well. It was well announced at it's intro that this was a show. It's brilliant that Mr Wells played so well with the publicity storm this whipped up after the broadcast.. the man was in his element. Just goes to show the average intelligence & education of the time, in the U.S, for a chunk of the populous.. lol.

I got my hands on a vinyl of the original broadcast, no edits or anything, at a thrift shop. I only knew about the broadcast because of this video, and I’m glad I did. I totally suggest listening if you can, it’s so good.
