“The Old Ones were, the Old Ones are, and the Old Ones shall be. Not in the spaces we know, but between them, They walk serene and primal, undimensioned and to us unseen. Yog-Sothoth knows the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the key and guardian of the gate. Past, present, future, all are one in Yog-Sothoth. He knows where the Old Ones broke through of old, and where They shall break through again. He knows where They have trod earth’s fields, and where They still tread them, and why no one can behold Them as They tread. By Their smell can men sometimes know Them near, but of Their semblance can no man know, saving only in the features of those They have begotten on mankind; and of those are there many sorts, differing in likeness from man’s truest eidolon to that shape without sight or substance which is them.” -H.P. Lovecraft

I had the impression of the "Deep Ones" and the large entity their ancestor god Dagon. Due to their kingdom is about that depth and they are about that way in the Pacific but it being Chuthlu changes everything. I agree with your points on Chuthlu nearly all the Elder Gods have that effect Hasteur, Nyarlethop the Skin changer God in the Arctic all drive the impressional outright mad .Well time we'll tell🤔

Maybe Cthulhu is just it's nickname, so to speak.

Where is your source that it was supposed to be cthulhu?

"how are we suppose to defeat him"Ramming a wooden ship into him worked the first time. I guess cosmic entities can't stand the pain of a splinter. Also one of the biggest misconceptions I think is that, despite the things he is capable of and his cosmic nature, Cthulu is not a god. He is actually a priest of the old gods and he can be killed. No one has ever achieved this though, but the writings of Cthulu says that he has a daughter that is hidden away so if he ever were to be killed, he would reincarnate in the womb of his daughter and she would give birth to her own father or something along those lines. HPs words, not mine.

I feel like there are many beings in the Lovecraft lore above Cthulhu. Also he could walk back that it was Cthulhu and make that first monster Dragon. Or it could be explained that the whole "eldritch beings being so insanely powerful" is just early human understanding of the beings. Like we thought those things but actually they are natural animals and function as such. We gassed them up because they scared us.

I love Underwater. I want to see more movies based of Lovecraft's work even loosely. Most people don't even want to touch anything made by H.P. Lovecraft because of his racist views. Also I find that if you make the cosmic horror so immense and everyone goes insane instantly who is going to write the story? A lot of Lovecraft's stories are written from the first person. I think just because you see Cthulhu you don't necessarily go instantly Mad. I mean some people probably will, others will go into a slow decent into madness. Those are the ones that write the stories that we the audience read. AND Trust me, I don't want Cameron or Spielberg touching anything inspired by lovecraft. God knows what kind of lecture we will get in this day and age. They can make a sequel if they want. At the end they restart the drilling. They could bring in exploring R'lyeh. They could even bring in the 2 surviving crew as voluntold advisers on the "creature problem." And in an attempt to destroy R'lyeh and Cthulhu's home he rises to the surface and end the movie there. Bring back an old school Outer limits dark ending!

Could have been Cthulu's Brood Queen. He could have been further underwater snoozing away.

I actually thought that this movie was a sort of modern retelling of The Madness From the Sea, but that was just how I saw it, I still get where you are comming from. Love your videos.

Cthuhlu was a closer to a priest of an origin race that once waged war against a race of creatures that created most life on earth. But even those creators were just a civilization on earth compared to the unknowable gods.

if you know so much about movie franchises how many have you done??, because all I'm hearing is a whiney, butthurt, vapid little girl who stumbled across how to make a youtube video. But to your credit you do demonstrate the Dunning- Kruger effect beautifully

WTF?!? I've never heard of this movie...and Cthulhu is in it? I don't know if I can decide to or not to watch it. It sounds like the director dropped a very recognizable name (Cthulhu) in the hopes of getting more views.

Cosmic horror is meant to be as depressing and hopeless as death and taxes.

Was he running from the bomb? I thought he was chasing after the escape pods with his little minion homies. I also would be disappointed if this is cthulhu. It would be cool if they built up to the old gods and this was just a start. But like you said no one is going insane. I imagine the insane would look like that crazy ass video from event horizon lol. Anyways I love your videos. You have made me laugh more then a few times. Still got to make a ringtone out of your one video sputnik lol when you said "look into my eyes, you know you want to pet me. Bitch!" Had me rolling for hours

Some of the greatest movies ever made are those done in a Hitchcockian style...you NEVER see the protagonist. It's hinted at, alluded to, but never actually seen. It leaves the horror to your imagination. And what is capable of producing the horrific better than our own imagination.

Digression: Think about the story "Call of Cthulhu." As described, Cthulhu is the equivalent of the night watchman while the important entities stay asleep until the Stars are Right.

You have a writer's heart, a director's eye and unique articulations and metaphors. So why not ummmmmmmmmmmmm - make a movie? But I can't because bla bla bla...

The director did an interview with Mr H Reviews and he told him that it wasn’t ever meant to be Cthulhu, and he never told anyone in the production, but that was what he thought of it as. So officially no, but for the director personally that was what he wanted to do. That’s why it’s more of a strong suggestion that isn’t completely obvious.

I really liked the movie. But I also agree that it should be a one and done movie. It doesn't have franchise potential. There isn't anywhere to go from there. In fairness I don't think Hollywood is equipped to produce a Lovecraft inspired movie franchise. Something that relies on a slow burn and abstract ideas. If there's a choice between slowly building a franchise and "LOOK AT THE BIG MONSTER AND GIVE US YOUR MONEY!!!" they will always go the latter route.I would like to see more Lovecraft movies but they should generally be stand alone and even if you did have characters meet in a later movie their experiences should differ drastically and even contradict each other. Afterall these entities are supposes to be beyond human comprehension, we should be dealing with unreliable narrators across the board.Edit: so random thought. Would Godzilla go mad if he met Cthulhu?

He's not a crappy movie monster. He's a GOD. Kinda sucks. Unless the next movie is just Cthulhu and the Old Gods wrecking the universe there is no where to go.

Come on it's a good movie sure shit started going down on the first 10 minutes and they put the main boss on the first movie but maybe they could be adding more fictional creatures like The Leviathan or the actual kraken or an even bigher cthulhu you never knew.
